Nutrition principles 😋

Feeding an animal I proceed from the fact that the dog is a predator, which is extremely important to remark not, not an omnivore like a bear or man, and suitable food — meat, meat bone component, by-products, fish.

To my mind, this is a fundamental topic related to our lesser brethren, which is significant for their health.

That said, I’m not a nutritionist (neither canine nor human), and if you have something to add and tell me that’s great.

Serving volume:
3–4% of the dog’s weight, 2 times a day. In winter, if you feel that your dog is not getting enough, you can increase the portion weight by 20%.

Protein rotation:
Interchange meat types. For example, every 2 months change meat: first mutton, then beef, etc. It is logical to assume that the animal can assimilate some nutrients from one meat and some others from another. There can be 3–4 types of protein in the diet, depending on what you can find in your market.
⚠️ The meat in the portion is purely muscular. Filet is not suitable for adult dogs, the exception can sometimes be given filet of duck. The ration includes not only the meat part. Also the following components are important: by-products, fat, vegetables, bone part and fish.

By-products
Options: heart, liver, kidney, tripe, trachea, brains, testicles, etc.
Can also be divided by type:
Meat: heart, liver, kidney, rumen, trachea
Fat: brains, testes (50% of the mass is fat, 50% is a by-product)
⚠️ Cautions: Liver (from 3–5% in total weight of daily serving + give separately from kidneys).Kidneys (also from 3–5% of the total weight of the daily portion + separate from liver)

Fat
Salmon oil is a bad option. I use the principle that the less processing of the product the better. Because it contains fewer nutrients, there are more options with which we can replace it.
Sources of fat:
Skin and fat of birds, fat of nutria, rabbits, brains (beef, mutton).
Bovine, lamb semen — consider as 50% of the weight is fat, 50% is a by-product.
In the case of bird fat, such as duck, it is easily cut off.

Bone part
Beef tails
Turkey neck
Quail
⚠️ Cautions: remove legs and wings from quail beforehand, as they contain tubular bones.

Fish Day.
To all these 3–4 types of protein add fish 2–3 times a month. For example, I give every on 10th of the month: 10,20,30. Suitable options — sea fish — red, sprat, capelin.
On fish day, the entire meat portion is replaced by fish.
//Came across the fact that my dog sometimes does not eat fish, in this case we put the portion in the fridge after the first feeding and give it one more time only in the evening, before or after a walk and by the time the dog is starving fish will be eaten.

Supplements
Quail eggs
Once a week i give 4 eggs (scald with boiling water as salmonella may be on the surface of the egg, keep in the freezer)
Cottage cheese
Can be given once every few days, replacing one main portion (for example morning or evening).
The weight of the portion is the same as one basic meat portion. I also add sour cream, because the dog doesn’t like it very much.

Banned
Pork
Horsemeat
Chicken (unless the dog has a positive reaction to the meat and you’re confident in the producer)
//Dogs are more sensitive to hormones which can cause allergic reactions.

I may have bored you at this point, it seems that cooking will take all weekend, but the table will fix everything)

Sample calculation of one serving (2 in the morning and in the evening) for a dog weighing 10 kg:
Portion 1 (morning🌅):
meat 115 grams / 63,89 %
by-product 25 grams / 13,89 %
fat 8 grams / 4,44 %
vegetables 32 grams / 17,78 %
Total: 180 grams /100%

The bone component:
bone component 40 grams

Portion 2 (evening🌇):
meat 115 grams / 63,89 %
by-product 25 grams / 13,89 %
fat 8 grams / 4,44 %
vegetables 32 grams / 17,78 %
Total: 180 grams /100%

Why is the bone component written down separately? Because I give it separately, it’s more convenient for me. I usually give it before the evening walk.
If your dog weighs 10 kg, half of a quail will do it just weighs about 40 grams. Also I never put an exact amount, sometimes I get a little more or less — it’s not a problem.

For full understanding I will describe the process:
We take beef meat and by-products — heart and tripe. Duck skin is the source of fat and its meat we use for the mixture.
We cut the meat into big chunks, for 50–70 grams (we do not have to weigh everything approximately, just at a glance)), and cut the by-products, it is more convenient to do 25–30 grams at a time.
Grate the carrots / pumpkin /
Prepack in containers.

About the fat, sometimes I omit it, as it is conceived as contained in the bone marrow, the skin of the quail which I give as the bone part or lamb meat, it is quite fatty.

The bone part for example will be turkey necks, we chop them (you need a torus, a knife will not work) and pack them in sachets.

Combinations I use:
Meat part: Lamb + turkey hearts + carrots / Bone part: quail
Meat part: Lamb + lamb lung + lamb heart / bone part: quail
Meat part: Lamb + lamb lung + heart + liver + carrot / Bone part: turkey neck
Meat part: Beef + duck + beef tripe + beef heart / Bone part: turkey necks
Meat part: Beef + duck + turkey stomachs / Bone part: turkey necks

And a little more:
You can achieve different goals when feeding, e.g. you want your dog to gain/lose weight — this is all governed by portion size and filling. Previously I gave an extra portion of rumen for the purpose of gaining weight, since all dogs like these treats. I mean, with this diet you regulate all the processes yourself, you want you add something more / less, etc.

Some foods can cause an allergic reaction. For example, pumpkin can cause soft stools, so your job is to determine and remove this or that ingredient which causes the problem. (This is more the exception than the rule, but it happens too). Or someone gets lax from lamb brains, keep that in mind. But I’m sure after cooking a few servings you’ll understand your four-legged friend’s preferences. Yes, I do not take into account the presence of meat on the necks and tails. I guess if you really want to, you can count it too.

Meat should preferably be conserved at -20 degrees, then all the germs die. But before freezing at -5 and nothing terrible happened. (Again, this is a private case and you determine how you will store)

Cooking time: 2–3 hours
Cost per month: 100 USD (including the dog weighing 10 kg)

Also at this point it may seem that the dog is fed exclusively as described above, but it isn’t. I can not refuse when he shoots his eyes and wants ice cream or cheese, most often of course I share with him too)
